Haskell Indian Nations University’s Acting President Venida Chenault cancels Haskell’s Student Senate President’s AIHEC trip.

Haskell Indian Nations University’s student senate meeting was once again plagued by the President of The American Indian Studies Club. Who took it upon herself to again yell at the student senate president as a way of intimation.

Only it didn’t work.

Handling herself with poise, Janice Mendez, Haskell’s Student Senate President took control over the senate meeting answered questions about the new BA programs and moved on.

And no AIS Club President you are not allowed to run around Haskell’s campus posting lies about the new BA programs… we think you need to educate yourself some more on those programs go and talk to Phil Homeratha, and stop listening to crazy hair.

And now for the American Indian Higher Education Consortium conference:

Haskell Indian Nations University’s Acting President Venida Chenault has canceled the trip to AIHEC, at least for Haskell’s Student Senate President Janice Mendez. Why? And why was she going last week, but not this one and when was she told she wasn’t going?

Janice should have been sent even if no anyone else was.

Haskell’s Student Senate President goes every year. Did Venida not want Janice in Washington talking to the people on Capital Hill?

Was Venida afraid Janice might really tell them what is going on at Haskell?

And don’t give us that tired excuse that Haskell couldn’t afford it. They were affording it last week.

And if Haskell can afford to send that sad excuse for a Haskell Board of Regents all over the place they can certaily afford to send the president of their student senate to Washington for AIHEC.

We looked on the AIHEC site and found this, looks like they are having it to us:

Larry Echohawk’s losing control over Haskell Indian Nations University.

And no AIS Club President you are not allowed to run around Haskell’s campus posting lies about the new BA programs… The board of regents voted those two programs in on May 2009. There are board minutes stating such and we have them.

What’s next?

Haskell Indian Nations University’s Acting President Venida Chenault is trying to get rid of some of the best employees Haskell has and ones that have come to Haskell with some of the best experience.

A couple names on the chopping block are Ted Juneau & Sharon Eagleman.

This is after Venida Chenault succeeded at being so unprofessional that Dr. Blackbird couldn’t stand it anymore and left.

Of course Venida will use the excuse that their appointments are coming to an end, and use that to push them out the door.

When in reality there is nothing stopping her from keeping them.

Instead, she would rather bring back losers like Theresa Milk, whom students are already complaining about her smelling like pot and being all buzzed up teaching in her classes.

Then reinstate people like Barbara Stumblingbear, who has no business being at Haskell at all after all her shenanigans.

Looks like Bureau of Indian Education’s Mr.Larry Echohawk is losing control over Haskell Indian Nations University… all with the blessings of Stephanie Birdwell-Bighorn.

haskellnews commentary 02/18/2010

Hey, Larry Echohawk look at this!

Congratulations to Haskell Indian Nations University Students who by majority vote decided to follow up on the programmatic cancellation of the Liberal Arts Degree and the Community Health degree.

The American Indian Studies( A.I.S.) club was there, yelling and trying to talk over the Senate President, but apparently there are enough unanswered questions that the students asked for follow-up by someone who will tell them the truth…….Thank-you, Janice Mendez Haskell’s Student Senate President.

They were no more outside the building than the someone started posting flyers about increased costs and a rally.

We suppose that means that they knew they were going to lose because it’s like having Superbowl Champion t-shirts made up before the game. At least Ms. Juila ( instructor, not doctor ) Goodfox is training those guys to be prepared.

So now they are spreading more rumors about increased costs to them. What is the actual cost to AIS students? The Department?

Well for starters, those people who are “forced choiced” into a default liberal arts program like AIS will now get to choose and they may not want to have a bachelors degree in an area no one can define.

Try to find another university in the world that does not have a general education degree, like liberal arts.

Now why isn’t it going to cost an arm and a leg?

Well because all the courses are delivered already, so the faculty is in place; the same is true of HSES. With Haskell’s faculty and partnerships, there would not need to be an absolute $dollar cost to Haskell.

Someone forgot to tell those traditionally prepared native students that it is wrong to spread lies; you can have a difference of opinion, which you already shared at the top of your voice, but the decision to look for better answers is not a bad one.

Good job Haskell Student Senate.

On a second note; the entire federal government in DC seems to be shut down; it’s a good thing that Dr.Venida Chenault can fly to Central Office West in ABQ and hire people like crazy this week before Larry Echohawk gets wind of what she and Kay Hayes are doing.

Central Office west says that Larry Echohawk is now micro-managing—like it’s a bad thing that he wants to know what happens. He should have frozen hiring in the entire Bureau of Education until the new director is named.

Venida Chenault is scheduled (the new term for preselection) to appoint Karen Gill as the Vice President for University Services.

Is this the same Karen Gillis responsible as the supervisor for “the worst case of hostile work environment” noted by recent reports; is it the same Karen Gillis who chauffeured around the convicted sex abuser who got sent home because he had a warrant out for him?

Fortitutious snowstorm for Chenault, but it is just calls for more shoveling out than just the white stuff.

University council attendees say that Chenault can’t even answer questions coherently; it’s a good thing Josh ( her son) is there to sit next to her and hold her hand.

Is he going to be there tomorrow for the strategic planning meeting? We hope so; because someone might ask a question. People are quickly learning not to ask questions though.

There needs to be a hiring freeze at Haskell Indian Nations University.

Congratulations are in store for Haskell Indian Nations University Acting President Venida Chenault.

We would like to list a few of Venida Chenault’s accomplishments in the short time that she has been back at Haskell:

Venida Chenault held an in service day ( In service days at a university? Not done. They are a part of grade school schedules though). last Friday that was hardly announced to the Haskell campus employees, some of them didn’t even receive a notice that it was being held, it wasn’t on Haskell’s announcements either.

Not that Haskell employees really cared anyway, only about 40 or 50 of the 250 employees Haskell has, showed up.

So maybe it was a secret in service, after all Venida’s little group of supporters were there sitting it in the front row and that was about it for attendees.

Venida shut down classes for an entire day at Haskell, so 40 maybe 50 employees could show up for what?… A Venida love fest as we heard it.

We do want to note that Ms.Wildhair was there, clapping every time Venida opened her mouth. You know Ms.Willdhair you get paid the same if you clap once, twice or a hundred times and all your clapping is getting annoying.

Let’s move on to sports. Seems Venida Chenault had herself announced at the Haskell’s Men’s Basketball game as Haskell Acting President and one person clapped….Ms.Wildhair must have been there. The way Venida is the treating men’s basketball team we are surprised they didn’t boo her right on out the door.

Venida has taken away the student senate building from the students and not given them access to their own activities funds.

Venida’s second in command over at housing seems to be nowhere to be found, so what is going on with that? Maybe Venida should call her sister Nadine Milne ( who works for Venida in housing) and ask her if she has seen or heard from him, since Venida apparently doesn’t know what is going on with your own employees. With his new shift 1-10p.m. you would think someone would see him or at least hear from him.

Venida should also check up on Dan Wildcat, apparently he is so overwhelmed with his new acting position that he can’t even answer employee e-mails!

Venida has taken the Indian Leader away from its last director and handed that over to “her adopted daughter”.

Venida has let Curtis close a half hour early ( how are the student athletics suppose to eat )? and allows the Curtis staff to treat the students horribly and feed them food that most people would not feed to their dogs.

Venida has tried to tear down every good program and change that Dr.Warner put in place for the Haskell students. Clearly showing she does not have Haskell students best interest at heart, just her own agenda.

By the way what’s going on with The Red Center?

Venida tried not take the Haskell Student Senate President to the AIHEC convention in Washington D.C. this year and replaced her with the vice president. We understand the student senate president is now going …but why is the student senate vice president going and who is paying for that? Since it is always the student senate president who attends.

Venida is allowing The American Indian Studies students (some, not all) to run all over campus posting flyers(lies) about the two new degree programs. Who is telling the A.I.S. students those lies? Surely not the same instructor who sleeps with some of them and then gives them A’s in her classes is it? AIS lost the vote and now they are trying to change it, the majority of the Haskell students want those two new BA programs, the vote will stand, the programs also. AIS will lose some students to those new BA programs and they know it…too bad.

Why would any group of students on any campus not want want new BA programs( could their instructors be telling them lies about the programs)? and want to protest against them ( a protest no one showed up for.. but nevertheless) and who was passing out all the students cell phone numbers texting them and telling them to show up to protest, who has all those private numbers?

Venida and her Native sister Miss.Wildhair have also let rumors spread that the current president of Haskell’s Student Senate is a supporter of Dr.Warner’s. So what if she is..last time we checked we still live in a free country. However, it goes to show us just how much Venida and Ms.Wildhair and the rest of their cronies are out to destroy anything or anyone connected to Dr.Warner even if those things or persons are in the best interest of the students.

Teachers like Shelly Bointy whose grant will expire in June. She wasn’t told to reapply for the same job she now holds… was she?? She is one of the best teachers that Haskell has and we are watching that situation very closely, actually we are watching for any harassment of Haskell employees( who are thought be be Dr.Warner supporters) by Vendia Chenault and her little gang, we wonder how the employees in the president’s office who worked under Dr.Warner are fairing? ..Can anyone say lawsuit??

Congratulations to Venida Chenault for almost single handily destroying Haskell Indian Nations University.

Larry Echohawk, Stephanie Birdwell-Bighorn are you getting all of this? Venida Chenault is just an acting and a bad one at that. Why is she allowed to make any changes or hire any new employees? There needs to be a hiring freeze at Haskell.

Mr. Larry Echohawk you need to get rid of Venida Chenault and the rest of her little gang. She’s not making either you or Stephanie Birdwell-Bighorn look very good.

haskellnews commentary 02/14/2010

Haskell News Commentary poses some student questions to Venida Chenault, acting queen (former Miss Pottawatommi 1970) for Haskell Indian Nations University.

In an all staff retreat, one of the recommendations to Dr. Warner is that Stidham Union be returned to the students because the students built the union—FOR THEIR USE.

Dr.Warner talks to student senate executive committee and asks them to draft Memorandum of Understanding ; the negotiations begin.

Haskell Indian Nations University’s acting president Venida Chenault takes over and issues this memo:

United States Department of the Interior Bureau of Indian Affairs Haskell Indian Nations University Lawrence, Kansas 66046-4817 December 28,2009

On Novermber 6, 2009 the Student Senate was advised the Draft Memorandum of Understanding developed between Haskell Indian Nations University and the Student Senate was not approved by the Office of the Solicitor. At that time you were advised the Student Senate was required to immediately cease entering agreements for the rental of Stidham Union.

The draft Memorandum of Understanding was used as the basis for the transfer of trust responsibility for the building from the University to Student Senate and allowed for rental space, space utilization and assignment of these responsibilities to the Student Senate.

With the disapproval of this agreement, responsibility for Stidham Union, including space utilization has been transferred back to the University.

Requests for space utilization will be processed by the Office of the President in accordance with practices for use of all buildings on campus.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Sincerely, Venida S. Chenault Ph.D. Acting President/Vice President for Academic Affairs

Questions this poses: This memo sounds like it stops the process; why is that?

The Memorandum of Understanding with the Board of regents began before Dr. Warner took over and was only just recently signed. At no time did the solicitor say that the process had to be stopped.

If something is amiss between two entities who want to reach an agreement, it can be tweaked until agreement can be reached.

Why are students now that Dr.Warner is detailed getting treated like they can’t make decisions?

Shouldn’t the administration be teaching them how to write an Memorandum of Understanding?

There is probably some social work theory that says that the parent is always right.

If we didn’t know better, we would think Chenault was raised in a boarding school and is continuing the tradition, but we know she was raised in Topeka, Kansas.

Where is all that empowering student rhetoric now?

Make up your mind.

Larry Echohawk don’t let your Haskell Indian Nations University Student Senate President and the rest of your Haskell students be treated like this. Bring back Dr. Warner ASAP!
