Read/listen to this testimony to see if Director Keith O. Moore tells congressionals the answer to any of the following:
1. In a educational system that has K-12 students, does anyone (including Keith O. Moore and Stephanie Birdwell-Bighorn) care that Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI), in Albuquerque, New Mexico has taken another step closer to losing their accreditation? Why are Karen Swisher and Debra His Horses Thunder creating “certificates” to be distributed at (SIPI)? Is it because Birdwell-Bighorn wanted SIPI and Haskell Indian Nations University( HINU), in Lawrence, Kansas to issue certificates? Since she has demonstrated that she doesn’t want degrees (you recall she canceled two at Haskell last year) perhaps the certificates are closer to something she can relate to….or understand. People without advanced degrees (like two highly placed Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) officials) probably feel more comfortable with certificates, so check to see if Moore mentioned this to the committee.
2. Also check to see if Moore mentions his “leadership” academy at Haskell; the one Birdwell-Bighorn spends approximately $100K on each year. We will not comment on the oxymoranic description of a week at Haskell run by Birdwell-Bighorn, Chenault, and crew but we will point out that it is for 9-12 graders, whom, the last time we checked were not part of post-secondary education–unless that is a comment on the Bureau’s high schools, perhaps Birdwell-Bighorn thinks that Haskell is best used to serve high school students…..in fact, it would be interesting to see if Moore tells the congressionals that he is canceling all post-secondary and moving to a K-12 program, because that’s what he’s spending his money on. Follow the Money.
3. Speaking of money, didn’t Larry Echohawk tell us all, in several newspaper articles that the new Director would decide how to deal with the leadership at Haskell. That’s money because it isn’t cheap to detail someone away for a year out of a budget that Mike Lewis says is over spent.
4. This week Director Moore is in St. Louis with 1,000 bureau employees to tell everyone the same thing he told congress, “we doing great things for Indian kids; BIE = Best in Education. Then the clowns will march in.
